MEDIA RELEASE District 17 State Senate Candidate Cheryl Kagan Discloses Impressive Fundraising Report (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 20, 2010) "I am flattered by the breadth of support I’ve received this early in the campaign," Kagan said. "Essentially, one person every single day of the past year (and two on weekend days!) decided to join our effort. I will continue to work hard to earn their support." Among the highlights: The $70,363.93 raised reflects $63,216.93 in contributions and $7,147.00 donated in-kind, in gifts or services to the campaign. Kagan's account had a total of $96,032.74 cash on hand as of Jan. 13 In the past year, 493 donations were made, ranging from $1.00 to $3,000.00. This reflects the grass roots campaign that Kagan is running. Individuals gave 96.35% of the donations reported; the remainder was contributed by local small businesspeople and a labor union PAC. The average donation was $128.17, further evidence of Kagan’s grass roots campaign. While many friends, classmates, and colleagues sent their support from around the country, 72% of Kagan’s donors live in Maryland. (In fact, 64.5% came from Montgomery County!) The report reflects Kagan’s continued commitment to her "Clean Seventeen" pledge, with a cap at 50% of the allowable maximum contribution. (This would be $2,000 rather than $4,000 for individuals and $3,000 rather than $6,000 for PACs. To keep her pledge, the campaign even refunded $1,000 to one donor whose total would have exceeded her voluntary limit.) "Cheryl’s fundraising success, especially given this tight economy, shows that voters are ready for energetic leadership in the State Senate," said Former District 17 State Senator Mary Boergers, Cheryl Kagan’s campaign chair.
