Forehand, Kagan to make joint appearance on ‘Political Pulse'
Published: Wednesday, June 16, 2010 7:00 am By: Nesa Nourmohammadi and Mimi Liu Source: Gazette.netSen. Jennie Forehand (D-Dist. 17) and her challenger, former District 17 House of Delegates member Cheryl Kagan (D), have unofficially agreed to answer questions together on "Political Pulse," a Montgomery Municipal Cable Channel 16 talk show hosted by Charles Duffy.
Forehand, the state senator with more than 30 years of experience in the General Assembly — she first served as a delegate in the House — said she was approached by Duffy about using his show as a forum for her and Kagan to answer questions on the same program.
While Forehand awaited word as to whether Kagan would participate, she sent out a press release last week that issued a challenge to Kagan to join her in "one debate to be scheduled on ‘Political Pulse.'"
"Cheryl and I will have many times to appear together at candidate forum and other community events. However, a televised debate will highlight the difference in our positions," the press release says.
Kagan said she was eager and willing to face off on the issues with Forehand.
"I got this letter from Jennie and I thought she was confused," Kagan said. "Charles Duffy called me six weeks ago asking if I was interested in a joint appearance and I said absolutely."
Forehand said she never heard from Duffy as to Kagan's decision.
Duffy said he has not yet decided on a date for the candidates' appearance. "Political Pulse" airs Thursday at 9 p.m.
