“These are the first people I go to on questions of voting rights, gun amendments or other issues,” said Norton to her congressional colleagues. More generally, she added that “it is much too early to put the legislative tombstone on all the legislation we've waited so long to pass.”

Cardin said, “We’ve adopted you,” referring to the help he offers the District because of its lack of voting representation. He also mentioned how helpful ADA was in his race two years ago against Michael Steele, the present chair of the Republican Party. Congressman Moran wondered, “Why can’t the American people understand how deep the mess was” that President Obama inherited, making a spill like BP bound-to-happen and the need for taxpayer bailout of Wall Street because of lax regulation.
Congresswomen also Edwards thanked ADA for being “a backstop to be for working people, families and children.” She also said that Michael Steele lives in her congressional district and that “I represent him like everyone else.”
