County executive makes endorsements in local races

Published: Tuesday, August 3, 2010 7:00 am By: Mimi Liu Source: Gazette.netCounty Executive Isiah Leggett (D) has endorsed Democratic candidates for the House of Delegates in districts 14 and 17, but will not endorse Senate candidates in districts 17 and 19.
Former delegate Cheryl Kagan is challenging incumbent Sen. Jennie Forehand in District 17 and Del. Roger Manno is challenging incumbent Sen. Mike Lenett in District 19.
However, Leggett is endorsing incumbent Sen. Rona Kramer, who is being challenged by Del. Karen Montgomery in the District 14 Senate race.
County spokesman Patrick K. Lacefield confirmed the endorsements July 28.
Leggett has endorsed incumbents Dels. Kumar P. Barve, James Gilchrist and Luiz R.S. Simmons in District 17, incumbent Del. Anne Kaiser in District 14, and House candidates Craig Zucker and Robert "Bo" Newsome in District 14.
Last week, Leggett also endorsed Bonnie Cullison, Jay Hutchins and incumbent Del. Benjamin F. Kramer for District 19 seats in the House of Delegates.
District 14 is comprised of all or parts of Ashton, Brinklow, Brookeville, Burtonsville, Calverton, Cloverly, Colesville, Damascus, Fairland, Goshen, Laytonsville, Montgomery Village, Olney, Sandy Spring, Silver Spring, Spencerville and Sunshine.
District 17 includes Rockville, Garrett Park and Gaithersburg.
