LATINO GROUP’S APPROVAL ADDS TO CONSENSUS
(Rockville MD, August 17, 2010)—Fast becoming the “consensus candidate” in the District 17 State Senate race, Cheryl Kagan today announced her endorsement by CASA in Action, the political arm of CASA de Maryland, the state’s largest service provider to the Latino community. CASA endorsement joins a list of a dozen other organizations backing Kagan, representing women’s rights, the environment, public safety, business and labor (complete list below). At the same time, Kagan unveiled the Spanish-language page on her website (www.CherylKagan.org).
“Cheryl has our enthusiastic endorsement because we know she will provide the kind of courageous and effective advocacy Latinos and other immigrants need in this troubling time of anti-immigrant demagoguery,” said Gustavo Torres, Executive Director of CASA de Maryland.
“I’m very proud to have CASA in Action’s support, since I know how much they do for our community,” said Kagan, whose district encompasses Rockville, Gaithersburg and Garrett Park. “Montgomery County has been enriched by our residents from other nations; I want to make sure they feel welcome and that their many contributions are recognized and respected.”
The candidate’s website, www.CherylKagan.org, now offers a Spanish language page and is working toward expanding bilingual features. “As I knock on doors throughout my district, I’m pleased to be able to converse with those voters who are more comfortable speaking Spanish or French,” Kagan continued. “Making my website multi-lingual as well is just an extension of that face-to-face experience.”
