(Rockville MD, August 17, 2010)—Giving the voters of District 17 another chance to compare her brand of energetic, effective advocacy with a decades-long status quo, State Senate candidate Cheryl Kagan will debate her opponent tomorrow on Channel 8’s “NewsTalk”, hosted by Bruce Depuyt.  The debate will be broadcast live (on both television and on www.TBD.com) at 10AM and then rebroadcast at 4PM, 6PM, & 9PM.

“The voters of District 17 (Rockville, Gaithersburg, Garrett Park) have a real choice in this election, and debates like this one are the best way for them to see the contrast between my opponent and me,” said Kagan.  “In tough times like these,” she continued, “the people of Montgomery County deserve a leader who will stand up and speak out for their interests.”  Kagan has faced off with 32-year incumbent Jennie Forehand three times already.  (Several clips from those debates are available at www.CherylKagan.org).

In earlier debates, Kagan has provided the more detailed and comprehensive answers to questions ranging from the State budget gap to the death penalty to nuclear power.  Viewers watching the broadcast live tomorrow morning may call or email their questions.

Quickly becoming the consensus candidate in the race, Kagan has been endorsed by a dozen organizations, including the Sierra Club, NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland, the Firefighters, the Service Employees, and the B-CC Chamber of Commerce PAC.

A Montgomery County native and MCPS graduate, Cheryl C. Kagan has spent a lifetime in public service.  She represented District 17 in the House of Delegates for eight years, then ran a charitable foundation that awarded millions of dollars to area nonprofits.  Twice recognized as one of Maryland’s “Top 100 Women,” Cheryl successfully fought for tougher gun laws, helped elect Chris Van Hollen to Congress, and has been a longtime champion of choice.  A Vassar graduate, she’s a professor at Montgomery College and has been a Democratic Party leader and spokesperson.  Cheryl’s volunteer community service includes years on the Maryland State Arts Council, Americans for Democratic Action, the Universities at Shady Grove, and the American Jewish Committee.  Cheryl lives in Rockville with her husband, David Spitzer.
