Kagan reports about $8K more than Forehand in District 17 Senate race
Incumbent House Democrats raised more than Republican challengers
Published: Wednesday, August 25, 2010 7:00 am By: Sean Patrick Norris Source: Gazette.netCheryl C. Kagan, the challenger for the Democratic ticket in the District 17 State Senate race, leads incumbent Sen. Jennie M. Forehand in campaign money by about $8,000, according to August campaign finance reports filed with the Maryland State Board of Elections.
"I'll never be able to keep up with her with money," Forehand said. "I think that I'm more careful about how I spend my money."
Forehand doubled up Kagan in her spending on postage, about $3,214 to $1,516.
"That's for thank-you notes and staying in touch with those who have contacted me through the years," Forehand said.
Forehand said she has been saving contributions for several years in preparation for this race.
Kagan received more than $7,000 of in-kind contributions. Forehand has no money listed as in-kind contributions. Some of it went toward furniture and equipment for Kagan's downtown Rockville headquarters, which has couches, fans, tables, chairs and a table tennis game, all donated.
"People have been great with their donations," Kagan said during an interview in early August. "We couldn't do this with out all these generous gifts."
Kagan could not be reached for additional comment by Tuesday evening.
District 17 includes Gaithersburg, Rockville and Garrett Park. For more information on the races, visit www.elections.state.md.us.
